A striking antique Japanese tansu chest with authentic, workwear character and beautiful aged patina. This impressive kiri wood piece is constructed in three stackable sections and combines graduated, full-width drawers with an upper sliding door cabinet for versatile storage. Warm wood grain, metal hardware, and large decorative iron plates give it that timeless Wabi Sabi / Japandi look. One of the most appealing details is the traditional craftsmanship throughout, including visible wooden pegs (wood “nails”) used in the joinery, a classic feature of Japanese case construction that adds to the piece’s authenticity and character. The lower section features three full-width drawers. The middle section adds four more full-width drawers, and all seven drawers are graduated in depth for a refined, traditional tansu profile. Up top, two sliding doors open to a thoughtfully arranged interior: each side includes its own interior drawer, and one side includes a shelf, perfect for organizing smaller items.

It is in very good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. Expect patina, surface marks, and scattered imperfections consistent with age and use. Some dryness, small separations, and edge wear are present. Iron hardware shows oxidation and character. Keyholes present, key not included. The drawers open well for a tansu chest, which is not constructed with glides.

35.75” wide, 16.5” deep, and 64.5” high.
