Mid-century small dining set by Arne Jacobsen, an icon of Danish design, produced by Fritz Hansen circa 1950's. This authentic set consists of the lightweight, compact Model 3601 drop-leaf dining table and four teak Ant chairs. The small, lightweight three-legged Ant chair was the first of its kind, with seat and back shaped in a single sheet of plywood, pioneered by Arne Jacobsen in 1952. The matching table is part of a series of tables called 3600 with thin, oblique legs in chromium-plated tubular steel with struts in the upper part. Like the Ant, the tables were designed as small, lightweight pieces that fit perfectly into modern kitchens and work lunchrooms. Arne Jacobsen often used the small tables to furnish his buildings. The chairs are engraved on the steel underneath the seat with the Fritz Hansen logo FH Danmark. The table is in good vintage condition and the top has been refinished with a glossy finish. The aluminum legs show patina and wear, there are a few blemishes underneath the finish, the rubber leg caps on the table are misshapen and the leaves droop a little bit when extended, easily remedied by the placement of a rubber shim underneath. The chairs are in very good vintage condition with some wear and marks to the finish.
The table measures long with both leaves, 39.75" with one leaf and 24.5" with both ends folded down. It is 27.5" deep, and 27.75" high.
The chairs are 16.25" wide at the back, 16" wide at the seat, and 21.75" wide at the back feet. They are 19" deep, 29.75" high, and 17.5" seat height.
