Large, framed ceremonial object from Papua New Guinea. The upper portion is carved wood with black geometric designs. Woven into the bottom of the wood section is long dried grass. It is attached to a light, neutral, finely woven background. The deep frame has a shadow box look for this three-dimensional piece. The frame is a light wood with wire loops on each side of the back for hanging and extra support built into the back so it's sturdy. Excellent vintage condition with imperfections to the sculpted wood section that may have been present since it was made, including a small chip from the upper corner.
Frame is 46" wide, 4" deep, 68" high. Art object is between 11.5" wide for the wood carving and about 18" wide at the bottom of the grass skirt part, and about 56" high.
