Exceptional George Nakashima rocking chair with free shaped arm on the sitter's right side. The chair is constructed from walnut with oak spindles. It was crafted in the Sakura Seisakusho studio, in Takamatsu, Japan, and is an excellent example of his artistry as a woodworker. Even today, Sakura Seisakusho is the only company other than the New Hope studio capable of making Nakashima’s furniture. The original owner brought this chair to the US from Japan decades ago. It has a burned in signature on the bottom of the chair. The model is called "New Chair" and is comfortable and in very good condition for age with some wear. It comes with an original sketch book (including drawings of this model) with cursive writing by George Nakashima explaining his feelings about trees and woodworking. Very good used condition with minor cosmetic wear.

32" wide, 35" deep on the side with the arm, 30" deep on the side with no arm, 33" high. Seat height is 13" and arm height is 20.5".
