George Nelson for Herman Miller desk number 4658, designed in the mid to late 1940s. This striking desk is constructed of a walnut cabinet supported by slanted steel legs with original tan leather writing surface and sliding upper doors. There are a series of shelves and small cubbies behind the leather wrapped sliding doors in the floating top cabinet. The desk features a perforated aluminum pull out file drawer on the right and a large, top opening storage box on the left with a leather handle. The back is finished so it's usable out in a room, and it looks very stylish from every angle. It is a rare model with lots of style and receives lots of attention. It has not been refinished and has lots of patina to the leather top and the wood, including scratches, small veneer chips and marks. The doors open easily, and the desk is sturdy.
54.25" wide, 28" deep, 40.25" high, 28" high at writing surface.
