An elegant Japanese four panel byōbu folding screen featuring a richly detailed court procession rendered against a luminous gold leaf ground. The composition depicts noble figures, attendants, an ox drawn cart, mounted rider, and ceremonial participants traveling through a stylized landscape of mountains and windswept pines, evoking the refined atmosphere of Japan's Heian period. Executed in traditional mineral pigments and ink on paper with silk brocade borders, the screen displays a warm, glowing palette accented by delicate linework and decorative details. Black lacquered framing, decorative embossed metal hinge covers, and patterned silk brocade borders lend a refined architectural presence while reinforcing the screen's traditional Japanese character. The reverse side is covered in a striking geometric textile pattern, making the screen attractive from either direction. The artist's signature and seal appear in the lower left panel. Very good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. There is visible separation and wear at several panel hinges, light creasing, scattered surface wear, and minor losses consistent with age and use. The screen remains stable and displays beautifully.
66" wide, .75" deep, and 36" high, fully extended, as shown angled as a room divider, it is about 56" wide. The two outer panels are 17" wide each, while the two center panels are 16" wide each. When folded for storage or shipping, it is 17" wide, 3" deep, and 36" high.
