A sculptural piece of mid-century Japanese studio pottery, this low oval vessel is elevated on four sturdy feet and features deeply incised geometric carving around its dark stoneware body. The form and depth make it especially well-suited as an ikebana planter for Japanese flower arranging, though it also serves beautifully as a decorative centerpiece or sculptural object. The earthy surface has subtle tonal variations from firing, emphasizing the hand-crafted quality. The underside bears a circular impressed Japanese seal mark, confirming its authenticity as the work of a studio potter. Very good vintage condition with a few small chips that are not immediately noticeable, along with light wear consistent with age and use.
11 inches wide, 6.5 inches deep, and 4.75 inches high.
