Meiji two piece tansu chest with custom made metal stand. This stacking two piece set has lots of character and some patina. The top piece has two full length drawers and the bottom piece has one full length drawer, one three quarter length drawer and two tiny drawers behind the small door on the lower corner. The drawers open and close ok, but not very smoothly, typical for tansu, which doesn't have glides. One nice, notable difference between this tansu and many others is that the black iron hardware wraps around the sides to the back of the piece. May be used stacked or as two low pieces. The rusty metal stand was custom made for this by the former owner who is a metal artist. Good vintage condition with some expected wear for age and use.
35" wide, including handles, 15.25" deep, including handles, 48" high, both the tansu sections are roughly 18.75" high, although they are a fraction of an inch different in height than each other. The base adds another 10.5" of height.
