Vintage, charming large Burmese lacquerware basket with some kind of cane or grass weaving on the outside. The lacquer vessel is in shades of red and black / dark gray. It is attached to a black pierced wood base. The lid is tied on with a string. We were told this was from Burma (Myanmar) were lacquerware is a huge art form and has been for centuries. Good overall condition for age. Some peeling to finish in places shows the basket weave underneath, some dents, nice patina.
19" wide, 19" deep, 23.5" high.
