A refined Japanese lacquerware bowl crafted in the Wajima-nuri tradition by artist Kōsen (光仙). The surface features a mesmerizing tamenuri (layered lacquer) finish in deep black with mottled gold and red tones, creating a glowing, organic pattern that shifts beautifully with the light. The wide, low form highlights the elegant restraint of traditional Japanese design while showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship and luminous depth characteristic of urushi lacquer. Signed on the underside in gold characters “輪島塗 光仙作” (Wajima-nuri Kōsen saku), identifying an artisan of the esteemed Wajima lacquerware school. Wajima-nuri is renowned for its extraordinary durability and depth of color, achieved through dozens of hand-applied layers of natural lacquer, sometimes incorporating metallic powders or pigments between coats for subtle radiance. Very good vintage condition with small scuffs and light surface scratches to the lacquer, consistent with age and handling. No cracks, chips, or structural damage noted.

10" diameter, 3.5" high.
