This is a Wassily chair designed by Marcel Breuer for Stendig. This chair is one of the earliest and most well known Bauhaus chair designs. It employs many design motifs of the Bauhaus including tubular steel and very informed geometry. Designed initially for the painter and sound artist, Wassily Kandinsky, the design is inspired by the shapes of bicycles. The chair itself features thick leather and a sturdy chrome frame and is surprisingly comfortable for having such a unique look.
In very good condition for its age. The leather is without significant wear and the chrome is without many blemishes or noticeable pitting. The "Stendig" tag on the bottom of the chair is partially torn off, as pictured.
It measures 30.5" wide, 26.25" deep, 28.25" high, 16" seat height
